My first Out Of The Box Impression Of The DJI Pocket 2...

BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER:

Well, my Pocket 2 creative combo arrived this afternoon. Here it is side by side with my Osmo Action basic set up which is on a 3 axle electronic gimbal but minus the external mic. In all fairness, the Pocket 2 will often be used with the GorillaPod tripod seen on the right, and both will be used with an extension stick between the tripod and gimbal. However, with the P2's size, weight, and wireless microphone, it will be far easier to carry and operate while out on long hikes and while wild camping.

I am not going to go on about how small the P2 is, that is no surprise to me as I had checked its dimensions and watched enough review videos. It is small, as the name suggests, small enough to fit in my trouser pocket. What I am impressed with is the build quality, it just feels very well put together, however, do not expect it to survive a fall.

Another great feature is that it has four internal microphones, one on each face, which do an excellent job of keeping your voice level when moving the gimbal from side to side.  In the app you also have the ability to switch from all mics to the front or the back mic only, this is a great feature if you are vlogging and want to cut out the surrounding noise.

The quality and rock-steady stabilisation of the footage from this small device is incredible. The internal battery is a bit of a disappointment, you can expect a battery life of around 140 minutes recording in 1080p. As I record in either 4 or 2K I have found it necessary to purchase a separate  6800mAh Power Bank with a 1/4 Inch Screw to attach to my Pocket 2 which should allow me between 4 and 5 hours of record time in quad or ultra HD.

Straight out of the box, I found the P2 very straightforward to register and easy to set all my preferred settings. This said I am fairly used to DJI's in, out, shake it all about menus, and already have 3 DJI products registered as I own an Osmo Action, Mavic Pro, and Mini 2.

The Osmo Action is off to the DJI Service Centre in Holland for a warranty repair as it has issues after a recent firmware upgrade, so I am looking forward to getting out for a local woodland walk to test out the P2 sometime within the next week.
