My Kayak Accessories & Winter Kit List for A One-Day Paddle. (Car Load Out)

This video is mainly aimed at novice inflatable kayak owners or paddlers that may be thinking of taking to the water in the colder months for the first time. Obviously, I am driving to, and parking as close to my launch point as possible. Many of the items I carry aboard my inflatable kayaks cross over to hardshell kayaks/canoes. This is a list of items carried, not a demonstration of how to use the individual items.

As much as I want to enjoy myself while out on the paddle, I take my safety and the safety of others around me very seriously. If this means I have to carry more kit, then so be it. An ex-military friend who occasionally comes kayaking and camping with me calls me a real boy scout. 🤣

I think this list is the minimum requirement for a comfortable, safe day out on flat-water rivers and canals during the colder weather. Some things I neglect to mention carrying are listed below.

  • Paracetamol and Antihistamines.
  • Lip Balm Water.
  • Lightweight Waterproof Poncho
  • Waterproof jacket and Trousers.
  • 3 x Emergency Thermal Foil Blankets.
  • A head torch.
