Other Interests & Passions:

With another birthday approaching, I have been spending some time sorting out my matured private pensions. This has left me pondering and looking back over my life. I have had many ups and downs, good and bad times.

In my mid-sixties, many of you that follow this page will know me as David Wilson Out and About, an older man that simply enjoys the outdoors be it walking, kayaking, or camping.

As a widower and having spent some time looking back recently, I thought I would share I bit more about myself and my life and achievements.

Firstly, as a child, I was very sports-oriented, which mainly centred around being outdoors. My hobbies included football, hockey, boxing, sailing, canoeing, orienteering, and camping.

Married with young children, many of these hobbies disappeared into the background and were replaced by the study of budo, martial arts. I have now been diligently studying martial arts and several healing arts for over 43 years, and a teacher since the mid-1980s. Some of my achievements to date (outside of work) include

  • DofE Gold Level (the early 1970s)
  • RYA Coastal Skipper (1970s).
  • PTI (Physical Training Instructor)
  • Professor of Martial Science (2005)
  • Grandmaster in Kempo and Ju-Jitsu.
  • 10th Dan (degree) Black Belt in Kempo Ju-Jitsu.
  • 10th Dan and founder of Bushin Kenpo.
  • 8th Dan Ju-Jitsu.
  • 7th Dan Aiki Jitsu.
  • 6th Dan Ki-Aikido.
  • 6th Dan Ki
  • 6th Dan Close Quarter Combat.
  • 1st Dan Hapkido.
  • Reiki Levels 1, 2 & Master/Teacher.

So as you can see, I have been a busy boy 🤣

A few years ago, what with work and at least 18 hours of training and teaching I began to realise that my life was in the fast lane all the time, so in 2015 I bought my first drone (DJI Phantom 3 Pro) and started getting out and about recording the countryside from the air. This was a life-changing moment for me, and shortly afterward I rekindled an old hobby by purchasing a kayak and getting out on the water. From the air to the water, kayaking showed me a completely different perspective of the countryside and got me closer to nature. Going full circle and taking up many of the hobbies that I so enjoyed in my younger days has given me a new outlook on life. OK, it is fair to say activities are performed much slower, but I feel so alive and grateful to be alive when I am out in nature.

I still teach martial arts, mainly teaching on the international circuit at home and abroad, and I also run my own martial arts organisation. An international renown instructor since the early 1990s, I have taught at hundreds of large events worldwide and many military and police establishments throughout Europe and the USA.

I also still work full-time in the health and care sector, so I find my time outdoors and producing videos for my channel therapeutic, a release from the stresses and strains of everyday life.

Plenty of life left in this old dog 😉

Thank you for following my page and supporting me by subscribing to my channel. I appreciate that my content will have a limited audience and that there are many very good YouTube creators out there that are more appealing and produce far more videos. However, I will not be directed by people or become a slave to an audience and pressurised into churning out videos in a conveyor belt style fashion to obtain or retain subscribers. I record and produce videos when I want to. I do this because I occasionally enjoy sharing my outdoor activities, but it is really appreciated and motivates me when viewers and subscribers express their enjoyment through watching and commenting on my videos.
