For many, the prospect of retirement feels less like a well‑earned reprieve and more like an abrupt erasure of identity; it is the sudden, unsettling whisper that the chapter that once defined the bulk of our lives has closed, leaving behind a lingering sense of worthlessness that no paycheck can soothe. While my finances are secure, the emotional toll of watching the familiar rhythm of work dissolve into quiet mornings has taken months of solitary reflection to acknowledge and accept. Fortunately, a mosaic of hobbies, which include walking and kayaking, has acted as a lifeline, reminding me that purpose can be cultivated beyond the office walls, yet even these passions could not instantly fill the void left by years of structured achievement. It was only after long, contemplative walks that I first entertained the idea of stepping away that the fog cleared enough for me to imagine a new narrative. This realisation inspired me to create a video, set against the very landscape that witnessed my decision, as both a personal testament and a beacon for anyone grappling with the emotional crossroads of retirement.
