A new drone, and my first drone flight in 5 years. I am a bit rusty and still getting to grips with my Potensic Atom, but I thoroughly enjoyed my first flight locally over Horton Kirby Fishing Lakes.
My Potensic Atom is a sub 250g drone. Drones under 250g are authorised to be flown in the sub-category A1 (A2 and A3). Drones under 250g can be flown in residential, recreational, commercial, and industrial areas provided that area is within an allowed airspace.
Examples of residential, recreational, commercial and industrial sites
Residential sites include:
- Individual residential buildings
- Small groups of residential buildings
- Housing estates
- Villages
- Cities and towns
- Schools
Recreational sites include:
- Tourist attractions
- Sports facilities
- Beaches and parks
- Theme parks
Commercial sites include:
- Shopping centres
- Warehouses
- Business parks
Industrial sites include:
- Factories
- Docks
- Rail and transport hubs
I display my operator's ID on my Drone. I have passed the UK Civil Aviation Authority's (CAA's) official online theory test to obtain a Flyer's ID, although this is currently not required as an operator of a sub 250g drone in the UK.
When operating a drone or model aircraft that’s below 250g, you can fly closer to people than 50m and fly over them. You can’t fly over crowds.
