After three weeks of feeling ill, I managed to get out for a brisk 6-mile walk, and what a beautiful woodland walk it was. The golds and coppers of autumn leaves looked fantastic.
Extending across nearly 300 acres, Shorne Woods Country Park offers a wide range of natural habitats to enjoy. Historically part of the pleasure grounds of the Cobham Hall Estate, the area was used for clay extraction for the local cement industry from the 1920s to the 1970s. The old clay pits created the flat, grassy areas that are now home to the picnic and play areas, Visitor Centre, and car park. Prior to this, the whole of the Park would have been covered by ancient woodland.
