As a young boy, right into my twenties, I was extremely outdoorsy. In saying this, my outdoor activities were fast-paced such as sailing, canoeing, orienteering, and long 3 to 5-day hikes and wild camping. Many a mountain was conquered back then, and hiking trips included multiple days in the Brecon Beacons and a memorable 128.5-mile 6-day hike across the Pennine Way from Ribblesdale to Kelso on the Scottish border.
So, what changed?
Marriage, career, mortgages, and family. It's the usual story, however, I did remain very active in playing football, powerlifting, and studying martial arts.
Now, having given you a bit of background on my earlier life, what rekindled my love of the outdoors.
In 2015, stressed out through work and running my martial arts organisation, I started looking for a hobby that would be in stark contrast to my other hobbies, enter the drone.
I bought my first drone which was a Phantom 3 Advanced back in 2015. Now this was a new learning curb, not only did I have to learn to fly the damn thing, but I also had to learn how to operate the camera and adjust all the settings. Within a year I had upgraded my drone two times, and I was now putting a few thousand pounds worth of drone up in the air each time I flew. This new hobby was fairly challenging, flying, videoing, post-production, etc. However, suddenly I was seeing the beauty of the countryside again, be it from a bird's eye perspective!
